Ethan was diagnosed with ASD in May 2007 at the age of 2. We are currently on the wait list for funding from Kinark (#232 on list) in York Region and SSAH.
Over the past 15 months, we have become not only parents, but case managers advocating for funding and assistance with the overwhelming costs associated with working and improving our son. Currently, Ethan is receiving speech language therapy, IBI therapy, biomedical intervention and gluten/casein-free diet, totalling over $50,000 per year. We have been fortunate to receive assistance from family members.
We have had meetings with the Catholic school board to bring IBI into school for Ethan as is required for him daily, but have been declined.
As a result of intensive private IBI, Ethan has flourished, and every day we see improvements in his behaviour as well as his speech. Currently, Ethan is receiving 15 hours per week of IBI, which is less than half of the recommended 40 hours per week he requires. Due to a lack of funding, we are unable to increase the hours.
Ethan thrives during his IBI sessions. He continues to achieve new milestones every week, and we will continue to do whatever it takes to provide him with therapy.
